Fire Suppression Advice & Updates

The iMist™ STH12 hose and Nullifire FS709 HP Intumescent Sealant: A Key Innovation

At iMist™, our focus has always been clear: deliver fire suppression solutions that not only perform in real-world conditions but also integrate seamlessly with the wider fire safety strategy of a building.

An important part of achieving this is ensuring that every penetration through a fire-resisting element maintains its integrity. That’s why our collaboration with Nullifire supports compliant detailing when installing the iMist™ STX12 system.

A Tested Solution for Fire-Resisting Penetrations

The iMist™ STH12 stainless steel flexible hose is a key component of the iMist™ STX12 water mist fire suppression system. Designed for flexibility, fast installation and minimal disruption, it provides a practical alternative to traditional CPVC sprinkler pipework.

The STH12 hose has been tested by Warringtonfire in accordance with BS EN 1366-3:2021 and BS EN 1363-1:2020 (Report No: WF 529380).

When installed in line with approved detailing and sealed using Nullifire FS709 HP Intumescent Sealant, the penetration detail can achieve up to 60 minutes fire resistance (EI 60), helping to maintain compartmentation performance.

Why Fire Stopping Matters

Where pipework or hoses pass through fire-resisting walls or floors, maintaining the fire barrier is critical.

Nullifire FS709 HP Intumescent Sealant plays a key role by:

  • sealing the annular gap between the hose and structure
  • expanding under heat to restrict fire and smoke spread
  • maintaining the integrity of fire-resisting elements

This ensures the iMist™ system performs as intended while supporting overall building fire safety.

Designed for Real Buildings

The flexibility of the STH12 hose, combined with tested fire-stopping solutions, makes the iMist™ system particularly well suited to:

  • complex layouts and constrained service routes
  • retrofits and change-of-use projects
  • historic or sensitive buildings
  • modern open-plan designs

Key Benefits

Faster, More Efficient Installation

Flexible hose design reduces installation time and labour compared to rigid pipework systems.

Adaptability in Challenging Spaces

Eliminates on-site cutting, solvent welding and complex routing.

Reduced Water Usage

iMist™ water mist technology uses up to 80% less water than traditional sprinklers, reducing potential water damage.

Maintained Fire Resistance

Tested penetration detailing supports up to 60 minutes fire resistance when installed correctly.

Supporting Compliance Through Collaboration

Fire safety is strongest when manufacturers collaborate to ensure compatibility, compliance and clarity for installers, designers and building control professionals.

By working alongside trusted fire protection specialists such as Nullifire, iMist™ continues to support robust detailing that protects compartmentation while delivering effective fire suppression.

As building design evolves and regulatory scrutiny increases, integrated, tested solutions like these help ensure projects remain both compliant and practical.
